Golf lessons & coaching

Paul Mitchell leads a team that has coached every ability from an absolute beginner through to a Ryder Cup player. Everyone gets the same level of personal attention from Paul and the team and their main driver is to make the learning experience fun. Golf can be a frustrating game, and there’s no magic formula as we all come in different shapes and sizes with differing physical abilities. Finding what works for their individual students and watching them make progress is what they enjoy most about coaching.

Testimonials

Paul has developed a great team in the Shop at Bristol & Clifton Golf Club. They’re very welcoming and provide a great, professional service for all aspects of the game. He has great facilities to deliver his services too!

Chris King

Paul and his team are able to translate all of the technical aspects of the game into a language that is easy to understand. The sessions are fun and I always look forward to them!

Paul has the most remarkable understanding of not just ‘the’ golf swing, but of my golf swing. He explains what’s not quite right, and how to correct it, in the most accessible way I’ve ever experienced. As a result, my swing and understanding of the faults has vastly improved.

Paul always challenged me to be a better golfer. I benefited hugely from his really hands-on approach to getting the best out of his players.

I started working with Paul when I was a 15 handicap 11 year old. He took me from that to a European Tour winner and Ryder cup player. There aren’t many people in the world that have done that. His work at his home club continues to benefit all levels of golfer.

Paul took me from a good County golfer to playing for my country and GB & I. Not only did he improve my technique immensely, but he improved my mental game on the course as well. Paul leaves no stone unturned when it comes to improving and getting the most of his player. He knows exactly what it takes to be the best.

Lessons

Our objective at the Paul Mitchell Golfing Academy is to help you to be the best golfer that you can be whilst having some fun along the way. We understand that one size certainly doesn’t fit all and will tailor each coaching session to help you achieve your goals.

We offer a range of options which are all delivered by Paul or one of his team of PGA Professionals. The team offers everything from individual on-course lessons through to video swing analysis and group lessons for men, women and juniors. We also offer coaching for groups of friends and work colleagues. Please get in contact if you have any special requests and we’ll do our best to provide a solution for you.

The practice facilities at Bristol & Clifton are second to none and whilst having lessons at the club, you’re able to make the most of them but please be mindful that B&C is a members only club so please wear appropriate clothing. There’s no magic bullet here as there’s no replacement for practice, practice, practice…

Individual lessons

The team will work with you on a one-to-one basis to improve your game. Initially they’ll work with you to understand exactly what you’re looking to get out of your lessons – is it improvement to your overall game, or development in one aspect? They’ll then plan out each of your lessons. One week we might be analysing your swing using the latest video technology. The next you could be out on the course working on specific elements of your game. One thing’s certain. You’ll love their lessons and your game is guaranteed to improve!

Group lessons for kids

Juniors are at the heart of the Academy’s ethos and we run regular group sessions to help build their skills as well as individual coaching under the prestigious Junior Golf Passport scheme. The Scheme has been designed by expert PGA Professionals who specialise in junior golf development with the aim of encouraging juniors to start, learn and play the game of golf. No clubs or experience is necessary.

We currently run two different groups for juniors:

  • Group one is for ages 6-9 years old
  • Group two is for ages 10-14 years old

For junior members the cost is £3 per session and junior visitors £5 per session. To ensure that we’re able to manage the number of juniors attending each session, we ask for full payment in advance. For availability and to sign up please contact the pro shop on 01275 393031.

Group lessons for women

The team provides group coaching in a relaxed and friendly environment. We provide lessons for ladies which are tailored for you so whether you’re just starting out and looking to learn the basic skills and techniques or, looking to take your game to the next level, we’ve a solution for you.

Skills

Driveway & Fairway woods

For a lot of people, this can be the hardest part of the game to master. The clubs are longer and the ball goes further. The team will work with you to get your distance game working well so you don’t have to compromise distance for accuracy.

Irons

Consistent ball striking and repeatable ball flight are the key here. You don’t need the perfect swing to have an excellent iron game. Understanding your distance control and swing plane will set you up perfectly and help you to lower your scores.

Short Game

Chipping and pitching is the area of your game that will likely improve your scoring the most. We’ll can work with you to help you improve your short game and hit better shots around the green.

Putting

Often overlooked, putting’s one of the skill areas that can make a dramatic difference to your score when improved. How to consistently hole those niggling four- foot puts, how to hole out more often than not and the key to successful lag putting are all skill areas that we can help with.

Gift vouchers

If you’re looking for a special gift for someone then search no further! Our gift vouchers can be used towards a purchase in the Pro Shop or specified golf lessons with one of the Academy’s outstanding coaching team.

Vouchers can be purchased for any value and we can take payment online or via telephone. We’re happy to post the voucher to you or your recipient with a personalised note enclosed. All of the Pro shop gift vouchers have a six-month expiry date so there’s plenty of time to organise that lesson or purchase the perfect putter.
